Brentford vs Man City: Player ratings, analysis and reaction as Foden’s goal puts City eight points clear

Image
Pep Guardiola’s side could be 11 points ahead of their rivals by the time they play again but insist the title race is still alive Phil Foden handed Manchester City a 10th consecutive Premier League victory and, with it, the prospect of opening the new year with a commanding double-digit lead in the title race. A championship contest that once promised to be a keenly-fought three-horse race is in danger of turning into another title procession for Pep Guardiola’s defending champions. After Wednesday night’s events in London, a City win at Arsenal on New Year’s Day would see second-placed Chelsea kick off against third-placed Liverpool on Sunday 11 points in arrears.

Leicester City v Liverpool: The Big Match Preview

Image
Match preview ahead of Leicester City v Liverpool in the Premier League at The King Power Stadium, with more memories to be made…   I FOUND myself in a moment of reflective awe last week. Moments after Liverpool had secured their place in the League Cup semi final, I sat and stared at the pictures of the players celebrating with a smile beaming across my face. Just when you thought this team, this squad, couldn’t find other ways to surprise you, produce other mad moments to write themselves into Liverpool Football Club folklore. Takumi Minamino, Caoimhin Kelleher, Diogo Jota, Leicester City dispatched just like that. You might have felt before the game that this one wouldn’t matter. Well, a look at the faces of the players after full time confirmed it absolutely did. It always matters to these players and this manager. Because they live and love to entertain us, and they live and love to do it for one another. Jurgen Klopp’s now famous post-match interview was filled with emo...

Manchester United vs. Newcastle result: Ronaldo and sloppy Red Devils held by feisty Magpies

Image
It must feel like ages since Manchester United fans last watched their team play a match, but they didn't see the performance they were probably hoping for in a 1-1 draw against second-from-bottom Newcastle United. The Red Devils were finally back on the pitch after a pair of COVID-19 postponements, the first league match for the club since December 11, and the rust showed with Newcastle taking advantage through an early Allan Saint-Maximin goal. An Edinson Cavani strike with 20 minutes remaining was enough to secure the draw as Ralf Rangnick's men take the point and go back to the drawing board. The Magpies were the more dangerous side for much of the match, and will feel incredibly unlucky not to get more from the match. Fans surely would have taken a draw before the match started, but after the 90 minutes during which Newcastle dominated for long stretches, it felt like two points lost. The draw also came at a very high price, as Saint-Maximin and lead striker Callum Wilson...

Premier League: Anthony Martial expresses desire to leave Manchester United to Ralf Rangnick

Image
Manchester: Anthony Martial has told Manchester United he wants to leave, manager Ralf Rangnick said. The France forward has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, making just two Premier League starts this season and only four in all competitions. Rangnick said he “spoke at length” with the 26-year-old Martial last week. “He explained to me he’s been at Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels it’s the right time for a change, to go somewhere else," Rangnick said Sunday. “I think, in a way, this is understandable. I could follow his thoughts but on the other hand, it’s also important to see the situation of the club." Martial became the world’s most expensive teenage player when United signed him from Monaco in September 2015 for a fee of £36 million (then $55.1 million) that could potentially rise to £58 million. Martial made a memorable debut, coming off the bench to score a superb solo goal against Liverpool, and has gone on to score 79 goals ...
